📬This Week on The Wild Path
A year ago this week, The Wild Path sent its first issue with 11 roles to 129 people. 51 issues later and 52 roles have landed in your inbox today and we have grown to a community of over 28,000.
We built The Wild Path because outdoor jobs used to be scattered, buried on obscure job boards, posted quietly on Instagram, shared between those in the know or never advertised at all.
So much has changed since July 2025. We have shared over 1,800 roles, we were commended in the Open Outdoors Award category at The Great Outdoors Reader Awards 2026, and we have tried our best to help people find their own wild path. A huge thank you to you for being such a supportive and encouraging community on this journey - we continue to learn from your feedback every single day!
A big part of our mission is focused on ensuring roles are visible and accessible, and we have seen a systemic issue with salary transparency across the industry. So many roles are shared without any salary info and that’s not how it should be. To help fix this, we have built The Salary Map, to help you understand what roles really pay…but more on that below.

The Salary Map
Because salary transparency matters
For the past year, we’ve tracked a lot of roles, and one thing has bothered us the whole way through, roughly 30% of listings, mostly in commercial and corporate roles, tell you nothing about what they pay. You’re expected to apply, interview, maybe use a holiday day for the process, all before finding out if the number even makes sense for your life. We don’t think that’s fair and something needs to be done.
So we built The Salary Map. Every role we’ve ever tracked with a salary all in one place. Search for what you do or want to do, ranger, ecologist, marketing manager, whatever it is, and see the real lowest, median and highest pay we’ve recorded for it in the outdoor sector.
The goal is to help you have a better idea of what a salary could be for a role you see out in the wild. Something to benchmark opportunities and your current salary against. It’s only small but hopefully a useful tool in your arsenal as you look for your wild path.
It’s live today, but in beta, if you spot something off, or broken (or you just think it’s brilliant), please tell us, we have built this for our community and it’s only going to get stronger every week as more data comes in.
