Meet Orla
Orla Bradfield πLondon
About Me
Hello everyone! I'm Orla Bradfield, an environmental development and education professional with five years experience working in programmes and operations. My core work focus is dedicated to uncovering the intersections between human and environmental resilience.
With an academic background rooted in Anthropology, I am passionate about exploring how cultural narratives and social conditioning shape our relationships with ourselves, one another, and the environment. I have worked alongside Indigenous communities and eco-initiatives across East and Southern Africa and Southeast Asia, with a particular focus on gender equity and climate justice within community-led environmental initiatives.
Having recently moved to London, Iβm at a point in my career where Iβm looking to move from freelance and field-based roles into a more permanent, full-time position within a mission-driven organisation.
How did I get into the outdoors?
I was drawn to the outdoors through a mix of contrast and continuity. I spent parts of my childhood in East Africa, where being outside was part of daily life. My dad was also a very enthusiastic camper, so time outdoors always felt both familiar and grounding. I mainly grew up in a fast paced city (London) and over time it became clear how the difference environments shaped my sense of self and wellbeing.
By the time I was teaching bushcraft and outdoor survival during summers whilst at university, I realised the outdoors wasnβt just a backdrop to my life, it was central to how I understand resilience, connection and community.
Favourite adventure or experience?
What instantly comes to mind is my time leading youth expeditions and conducting fieldwork in Kenya. But on careful reflection, there isnβt one standout moment. Itβs the sense of belonging Iβve felt whilst working alongside values and ethos driven individuals and organisations, often in extraordinary natural environments, that has felt most rewarding.
One mindset or bit of kit I always take with me?
It entirely depends on the environment, but I tend to carry small tools that support physical and emotional regulation. For example I made a small castor oil tincture infused with rosemary and geranium oil that forms as a core part of my kit. It's often requested in moments of intensity in teams that know me well, whether to offer grounding, repel insects, sooth sore muscles or to simply create a little moment of care.
What am I looking for?
Iβm seeking a full-time role within programmes and operations in the environmental development and education space. I intend to embed myself long-term within a mission-driven team, helping to shape and strengthen both programme delivery and the systems that underpin sustainable, high-impact work.
While my core focus is securing a permanent position, Iβm also open to opportunities and project-based work that align with my practice. Iβm always open to connecting with like-minded individuals, whether to explore collaboration or simply exchange ideas.
If any of this resonates, Iβd love to connect!
