About me:
I've never been a sit behind a computer person. I've always enjoyed doing different things. I've been an EFL teacher in Madrid, worked in hospitality, been a tour guide and created teaching content for Chinese University students. My dream job would be a Food Tour Guide. So I like to move and hike in between!
How did you get into the outdoors?
I got into the outdoors because I just hate the gym but I like the post exercise endorphins. My Dad used to take us out every weekend for a muddy walk round where we lived or a bike ride, or to play badminton, or to swim. That carried on into adulthood. I lived in Madrid in my 20s and getting out the city at the weekends and into La Pedriza or Casa de Campo was one of my favourite ways to relax. Even living in the countryside now, I still love a good long walk, a dog, and a pub lunch after. It never gets old.
Favourite adventure?
My favourite adventure is to do something I never thought I'd do - see the Great Wall of China for example. Recently I managed to hike up Latrigg in the Lake District. Not the most difficult or the highest peak, but after my spinal surgery two and a half years ago I didn’t think I'd be able to hike again, much less walk. I'm not completely recovered but the adventures aren't over yet. We have yet to finish our pandemic project of completing the Chiltern Way!
One mindset or bit of kit you always take outdoors?
It doesn't matter how far you go or how fast. Just get out and do it. You'll feel better after. For kit, some chocolate almonds for a quick pick me up, a torch, and a colourful waterproof - can be used to keep you dry, to sit on, or to wave to attract attention if you lose your walking buddy for a minute.
What are you looking for?
I'm looking for something to inspire other people who feel like they have fallen behind and want to get back out there. Weight change, injury, lack of motivation etc... We can't all be Linford Christie. Movement heals and can bond us.
